Slow Mornig Rituals

If you are on instagram I bet you may have seen the many challenges that people are doing now. I like the #dontrush challenge but not for the make up and the beautiful transformations. I like the inspiration behind it and the reminder that we should slow down. With my working-from-home schedule I now have about three hours every morning that I can fill with whatever I want. And on a good day this is how my’ slow down morning ritual’ looks like.

Slow down morning ritual

Sleep well and Rise early

Ensure you wake up with enough time to nourish your body, mind and soul. There is saying that goes, ‘before we can truly care for anyone or anything else, we must take care of ourselves first’. Sleep is a vital part of our well being, so make sure you get plenty whenever you can. It is important to remember to have a regular sleep pattern. Wake up and go to bed at the same time. For you to be ready for the day in the best way, have sometime for selfcare.

Organise your bed

Making your bed is a way of keeping your personal space organised and tidy. Which will then make you have a calm and focused mind. We have a post here talking about the importance of decluttering and keeping your living space organised and clean, you can check it out. Keeping your bedroom tidy and clean has been proven to reduce stress and anxiety. And to calm the chaos of the day it’s important to feel like everything is in the right place, so we can focus on having a mindful and productive day.

Say a prayer

This depends if you are religious, say a little prayer it might just make a difference in how your day will turn out.  If you aren’t religious you can spend a minute in silence just to connect to your inner being .

“God’s Word is good. It is holy, reliable, powerful, mysterious, and righteous, and there are no promises that tell me my worst fears will not come true. God does not promise us a pain-free existence ” – Maria Furlough

Meditate

This can take as little as five minutes. It’s one way of connecting to your spiritual and inner being. Meditation  aligns our physical self with our spirit self being. Which in the end calms us and leaves us feeling focused and peaceful. And with the reassurance that no matter how the day turnout we will find a way to  knowing that it might be tough but can get through it.

Calm and headspace apps are a good source for meditation of every kind.

Shower and dress up

Take the time to enjoy a long rejuvenating shower. Your shower time can include a new morning skin care routine. If you already have a skin care routine, you can take the time to enjoy it and be more present in the moment without any rush. My best part of the morning is dressing up, even though I work from home I still dress up for the day. Also put on make if you have to.

Eat healthy

Make sure to include a healthy breakfast as part of your morning ritual. One of the simplest benefits of having a healthy breakfast, is that it will provide you with the physical energy you need to start the day.  Energy is essential for our memory and brain function.

Conclusion

My main objective most mornings is to prepare for a productive, calm and mindful day. But some days I do not get to do everything on this list. And that’s okay. On my worst day if I manage to get even one of these done, I count it as a win. Because I know that on my best day, I give my very very best.

Please don’t hesitate to share what your morning looks like 🙂

I’ve found prayer and meditation are really making a huge difference to my mood in the morning and makes me more aware that I have the entire day to get to my to-do list, but right now it’s my time. I feel more centered, less inclined to rush and can focus on breakfast, and stuff. I’ve not done the dress up and make up things, but I am working on a real skin care routine lol.

This would be my dream! But what usually wakes me up is a little voice saying “mommy what’s for breakfast? we’re hungry” !! Enjoy your slow morning ritual while you can! LOL

I do shower and dress up every morning and even during lockdown so that my mindset is more positive and I find that saying a prayer at night helps me calm down too. Some of my friends have resorted to doing meditations as well.

These are all great tips to set the tone for a great day ahead. I have also taken the time to slow down and smell the roses during this period. Hopefully it will continue even after normalcy resumes. I loved your post!

You have a good morning ritual. Prayer is definitely on my list. I haven’t been able to make up my bed since I started working from it lol
